June is here and summer is in the air as seniors are graduating, weddings bells are ringing, barbecues are sizzling and the marine layer swoons over southern California. ‘June Gloom’ as it is known here in So Cal is when the marine layer builds up over the ocean and makes its way inland. The mornings are typically cloudy and dreary – something Californians are not accustomed to experiencing.

The good news is that most days the sun burns off the clouds by one or two o’clock in the afternoon. Nothing too serious. In fact, many people enjoy the sunless mornings as it brings a sense of calm and you do not have to fret with excessive glare and the like. But if you are looking to enjoy a full day at the beach or some other outdoor outing and the sun is not cooperating, so cal or not it is not a good thing.

Dieters make great strides in June. The weather has finally broken throughout much of the United States and people are starting to be seen exercising everywhere. The increased activity and desire to look good in summer (since clothes can hide our extra fat) raises the motivation for folks to eat more healthy. It is also a time where people are starting to measure their vacations. Plans are in place and the desire to look good for the week at the beach or for the summer excursion helps dieters to stay focused and motivated to lose the weight.

Keen on doing what it takes to shed a few pounds, be more active and generally be smart about our weight and shape. Those times may be in June for you or perhaps at the new year when many folks are anxious to start the new year off right.
