Independence Day is a classic American holiday and its significance is especially real given our recent trip to South Africa.

The Empower Me Photo Blog is still on holiday due to the FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa and the photo is my family (yes, Adriana and daughter) do attend about once a year) at the Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders match. The LA Galaxy put on one of the largest fire works shows on the West Coast and the family atmosphere is as Americana as apple pie. Galaxy won 3-1 courtesy of a classic Landon / Buddle connection - they lead the league in assists and goals, respectively, followed by an amazing strike from distance by Brazilian Juninho which will surely be MLS Goal of the Week. And despite losing our free chicken (shutout reward sponsored by Pollo Campero) the final goal came from a hungry run down the flank by Alan Gordon and a sloppy clearance as LD pressured the Kasey Keller.

The day started with a wonderful family barbecue in Thousand Oaks as we celebrated a family birthday. Happy Birthday Gigi and good luck in college.
