Counter Vision

Counter Vision
As we continue to help our audience gain insight into obtaining a new vision, it is important to recognize that nothing happens in life without a trade off. If you want your business to make more money, it usually means that your ‘business’ will become ‘busier’. Say that your goal is to see your extended family more in the coming year – that would typically mean that you will have fewer weekends to yourself. The same is true with Weight Loss.
You are on your way with weight loss. You’ve got a new vision of yourself – one that is slim and healthy looking. You’ve absorbed into your psyche what that means for you: you’ll be more active, eat smarter and more healthfully, you’ll be hanging out with new friends that share your new vision and not the old ones who were simply unmotivated and for lack of better words – fat and lazy.
You are a whole new person; maybe not just yet on the outside but your inside is brimming with confidence as you see yourself thin and healthy looking. And you are excited and grateful for whom it is that you are becoming. Finally, you are on your way as you suddenly have the courage and confidence that you can complete your weight loss journey. All because you finally have a vivid image of the new you – the slim and healthy looking you.
So let’s take a moment and consider the effect of the ‘counter vision’. You see, as you hold on to the vision of the new you it is exciting to know that you are going to look like that person very soon. But in order to make that vision a reality you need to embrace the 'counter vision'. The reason we say ‘embrace’ the counter vision is so that the challenges do not take you by surprise.
You’ve been clever enough to know what it is you are going to look like AFTER you lose the weight. That is a huge step.
It is still going to be a journey and if you plan for the challenges along the way you will not be as vulnerable to their inevitable strike. You see, hunger will come. Fear and doubt will raise their ugly heads. But if you have your counter vision, you will be fully armed to push them aside quickly.
By Counter Vision, or some would refer to it as an Anti-Intention, we’re talking about all of the negatives that come with your positives. And the types of things you can anticipate are broad in scope. Things like: becoming hungry, cravings for those late night snacks, your former friends calling you up to go and see movie where the 3 of you will sit and gorge for 2-3 hours, your former friend calling up trying to drag you back to the land of self-pity and comfort food, the couch calling your name on Saturday afternoon instead of planting the flowers, the bed telling you that you need 2 more hours of sleep instead of hitting the gym……as you can see, there are endless possibilities of challenges that you will face on your way to achieving your new vision. And we call those challenges Counter Visions.
If you plan for them and know your escape path or how you are going to mentally and emotionally overcome them in advance and you will be forearmed and prepared to overcome the challenges.
So just like you have to accept that your business will become busier if you want it to grow, you have to accept that you will have to overcome challenges if you truly want to complete your weight loss journey.
